Besides teaching, I love gardening, hiking, and traveling. My teaching background includes 10 years directing a literacy program for Seattle University, 6+ years working as an educational therapist administering cognitive assessments and helping dyslexic and other struggling readers learn strategies for better reading and writing skills, and a brief whirl as an English as a Second Language tutor for community college students. I have successfully completed associate level training with the Academy of Orton-Gillingham.

Dyslexia is a different brain organization that needs different teaching methods. It is never the fault of the child, but rather the responsibility of those of us who teach to find the methods that work for that child.
